Made a trip to the city of Friedrichroda to search out some additionalinformation about my 'Liem' relatives.

Made a trip to the city of Friedrichroda to search out some additional information about my 'Liem' relatives. My great grandfather Charles Albert Liem immigrated from Friedrichroda in 1883. I was able to find a Heinz Liem still living there although he really didn't know his relatives any further back than his grandfather Franz Liem. Franz does not appear to be in the direct line back to Charles but I suspect Franz may be a brother of Charles' father, Johann Valentine Liem. Anyway I was able to visit with him and his wife Ute. Fredrichroda is located in former East Germany and Heinz learned Russian as a second language, rather than English like so many other Germans. It was good that Dagmar was on hand to do all the translating. We also visited the Rathaus to look up birth, death, and marriage records. We were able to find several, among the death of great uncle August who died in 1951 in the Veronika A. Liem house. Didn't know that house existed until I saw it on a postcard auction a few days ago. All very interesting, much like being a detective, following some leads!!
