Another Day in Montague 9/9/10

On the road to White Lake Channel
A second day it Montague brought us the chance to try out some new bicycles.  These are Electro bikes that I would call slightly-recumbent. I tried a 7-speed and Dagmar tried a  21-speed. You sit much more upright with no pressure on you arms or wrist. The sits were wide and quite comfortable. All in all we like them quite a bit on our 12 mile round trip to Medbery Park on the Lake Michigan coast. I think I would like to try the 21-speed as the  7-speed didn't quite get to the top gear that I am used to.

A seagull doing what he loves - fishing!!
When we arrived at the park we were able to walk on a long concrete pier that is the White Channel entrance to Lake Michigan. It afforded us the chance to take some great pictures of the seabirds as the wind was brisk, and they were skillfully navigating it. The immense size of the great lakes is mind boggling. From the shore, they certainly look as big as any ocean, but they are fresh water. The dunes are surprising because they aren't always just pure sand, but have lots of tall prairie-like grass populating the landscape. We dragged our bicycles up into the sandy dune as we looked for and found a sheltered place from the wind to sit down and enjoy our lunch of water, yogurt, and an apple.

It evokes the emotions of travel to beautiful and unique places

I think this picture more than any other we've taken evokes the emotions of travel. The bicyles sit riderless in the grassy dune lands tell the story of us having arrived and departed the scene.
