Motor Home Problems Revisited 9/13/10

Unfortunately, Monday found us back at Terry's place with additional RV problems. We had left out Sunday and made it as far as Arcadia before we discovered oil speckeling the back of the motorhome. After a quick call to Terry we decided to just head straight back to Montague, about 80 miles, and let him look at it. Arriving about 6pm that evening Terry immediately began work diagnosing the problem. It turns out that an adapter plate for the hydralic pump had a crack in it. We had always lost a little bit of oil but now it was much worse, probably aggravated by the disassembling and reassembly during the previous repair. We couldn't replace just the part since Caterpillar just sells the entire assembly, which wasn't even in stock anywhere. So Terry asked a friend of his , John, a semi-retired machinist, to mill us a new part which he did in his garage shop. We ended up camping out Monday evening at Terry's shop with the motorhome disassembled waiting for the part to be finished. We weren't the only ones with problems as Terry's own Case tractor ended up needing a new clutch assembly for the power takeoff. Rich, Terry's brother, needed it to do some corn harvesting so it got quick attention.
