Headed off to take a hike with the dogs.

Headed off to take a hike with the dogs. Weren't sure if we wanted to do the hike to the Royal Arch in the Flatirons just southwest of downtown Boulder or not. It gains about 1200' in less than a mile which can be little tough if you have done any real hiking in a while. Any way there were several trails there and we could choose which ever one suited us when we got there. When we arrived we still weren't fully committed. So we went west on the trail when we should have gone straight, so what should have been a 3 mile, 2 hour hike  to the Royal Arch turned into quite a bit more. A 4 hour romp thru 'hill and dale' before finally arriving at the Royal Arch. Anyway it proved we can still do the 'big hikes' even it kills us. All in all we were pretty happy with our accomplishment.

Well done.  Looks like a great hike.

Did Mr Grindstaff have to carry you the last mile or two?

Bill...we did have to help the dogs up several of the big boulders. Their legs are just too short. But both Mr. B and Mr. G got a lot of admiration from other hikers.

Those guys are amazing troopers! Looks like the whole family had a great outing. A friend of ours had an office in the south end of Boulder near the Flatirons. Didn't get a chance to hike there but did xc ski at Eldora ski area which is at 9,000 feet elevation above Nederland. Kinda took my breath away! Glad to hear you're having a great time in Boulder. Next time you're in Oregon you'll have to try Bend which is a similar active type of town as Boulder.

We will have to try Bend, the next time we get out that way. I added another picture to answer you question about what you could see from the Royal Arch.
